Belgium: a small country that has a lot to offer

Belgium is a small country of only 30,000 km˛. It is divided into three regions: Flanders in the north, Wallonia in the south and Brussels as the capital region.

It has three official languages: Dutch, French and German (there is a small German-speaking community in the east).

Belgium has a about 10 million inhabitants. It is densely populated but still has quite some green areas, especially in the southern Ardennes.

  Belgium as a tourist destination

Belgium has a lot to offer. It is famous for its art cities: Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. They are all medieval cities with castles and squares of that time. Several museums showcase century old art by masters as Van Eyck and Rubens.

Several other cities in Flanders and Wallonia date back to the Middle Ages.

The Belgian coastline is only 60 km long, but it has a typical atmosphere and is worth a visit. Oostende is the main coastal city.

For nature lovers, both Flanders and Wallonia can provide you with activities as cycling, trekking, hiking, canooing...

Those looking for nice food and drinks will not be disappointed either. Belgium is known for its fine cuisine and for its beer (hundreds of varieties).

Belgium has a high living standard, which is reflected in its varied imports.

Businessmen looking for partners in Belgium can contact government agencies as FIT (Flanders), AWEX (Wallonia) and BrusselsExport. Likewise, embassy commercial departments might help to find them.
